{"id":34,"date":"2024-12-28T15:35:38","date_gmt":"2024-12-28T15:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alandix.com\/creativity\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2024-12-29T16:57:08","modified_gmt":"2024-12-29T16:57:08","slug":"2-divergent-thinking-and-bad-ideas","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alandix.com\/creativity\/topics\/2-divergent-thinking-and-bad-ideas\/","title":{"rendered":"2 \u2013 Divergent thinking and bad ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this lesson we&#8217;ll focus on divergent thinking those unexpected ideas, that can kick you into looking at a problem, even a familiar one, in a new way.\u00a0 Often these lead to solutions that you overlooked previously or are simply in such a different place you had never even considered them.\u00a0 We will look at a range of techniques to help you break free of entrenched thinking, and in particular bad ideas, which is partly about encouraging you think again a little like that three year old version of yourself.\u00a0 However, even the exercises on bad ideas include more structured prompts that start to take you down the convergent paths we&#8217;ll revisit in later lessons.<\/p>\n<h1>2.1 \u00a0Bad Ideas<\/h1>\n<p>Have you ever been in one of those brainstorming meetings \u2013 you know the ones where you try to think of new ideas, and say that you are all going to uncritical \u2026 and yet still you seem to either just make tiny changes from what you already know or are stuck trying to think of that new wonderful good idea, but nothing comes.<\/p>\n<p>What of instead of trying to think of a good idea you deliberately set out to make a bad idea or a silly one?<\/p>\n<p>In this section you will learn to ask simple questions about bad ideas, and see how this can lead to new insights and even ultimately lead to new good ideas!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/slideshow\/embed_code\/key\/eEZoYtmY8VeCLv?hostedIn=slideshare&amp;page=upload\" width=\"476\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<h1>2.2 \u00a0Bad Ideas \u2013 examples<\/h1>\n<p>How can one possibly learn anything useful from a chocolate teapot, an inflatable dartboard or a glass hammer?\u00a0 This section develops a number of examples of bad ideas, following the steps in the previous section.\u00a0 However, are there some ideas so bad that no amount of prompting, questioning or transformation can ever help?<\/p>\n<p>Note: In the slide I use the term &#8216;oxymoron&#8217;
