{"id":100,"date":"2020-11-29T10:05:49","date_gmt":"2020-11-29T10:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/?page_id=100"},"modified":"2020-11-29T10:47:59","modified_gmt":"2020-11-29T10:47:59","slug":"hyperlocal-distillery","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/case-studies\/hyperlocal-distillery\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperlocal Distillery"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #993366;\">&lt; happening now &gt;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inthewelshwind.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In the Welsh Wind<\/a> is a small distillery in West Wales.\u00a0 It is a wonderful example of the way the internet can enable hyperlocal values with global reach.\u00a0 Like the <a href=\"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/case-studies\/reimagining-fashion-production\/\">fashion envisionment<\/a>, the use of digital technology is quite limited, mostly simple web delivery.\u00a0 However, the way the distillery operates embodies aspects of <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalthinking.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">digital thinking<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inthewelshwind.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-115\" src=\"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/files\/2020\/11\/wales-wind-barrel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>At its heart Welsh Wind is a local company deliberately sourcing materials from Wales including the barley used in its whisky and establishing the first malting house in Wales in a hundred years.\u00a0 There are many such craft producers, which often make the majority of their sales through local shops and craft markets.\u00a0 However, Welsh Winds have embraced patterns of marketing and production which are very much 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>Like many companies, it has a strong web presence, but crucially it makes use of membership models that have a <span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>Kickstarter-like<\/em><\/span> feel, as does its pre-selling of small casks of a new Whisky line.\u00a0 Many of the big brand distilleries have such membership clubs and at times you have been able to have your own square foot of Islay peatland.\u00a0 However, doing this for small brands with personal stories is an internet-age phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>Personalisation<\/em><\/span> \u2013 The growth of gin sales globally has been consistent over a number of years, crucially with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiwsr.com\/news-and-comment-provenance-and-profits-the-future-of-the-gin-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">double digit growth<\/a> in premium products.\u00a0 Many manufacturers have addressed this by producing many different styles in order to meet the collector instinct.\u00a0 However Welsh Wind have gone a stage further allowing purchasers to create a totally individual gin through a simple web interface.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-109 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/files\/2020\/11\/wales-wind-choice-300x199.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/files\/2020\/11\/wales-wind-choice-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/files\/2020\/11\/wales-wind-choice-452x300.png 452w, https:\/\/alandix.com\/deepdigitality\/files\/2020\/11\/wales-wind-choice.png 506w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inthewelshwind.co.uk\/product\/your-custom-spirit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Welsh Wind Distillery \u2013 Your Tailored Gin<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em>Platform<\/em><\/span> \u2013 As well as allowing customers to create custom gins, Welsh Wind have a service to help others create their own custom gin brands.\u00a0 Welsh Wind provide consultancy and production while the third-party company can design its own special blends and sell these under their own label.
