Natural language processing (NLP) takes text or speech and converts it into forms that can be used as parts of larger systems. It may be used interactively in a conversatonal user interface or voice assistant, or as part of a batch process such as natural language processing!information management extracting structured data from free-text documents. Traditional NLP often proceeds in a number of phases syntactic analysissemantic analysispragmatic analysis; but large-language models are more monolithic and some applications with limited vocabulary may be able to skip stages.
