Human attention is a limited resource, we can only pay attention to one thing at a time. This was identified by William Jones at the end of the 19th century in some of the earliest work on the psychology of emotion. AI can be used to recognise the focus of human attention, especially using eye tracking, or lack of attention, for example, whilst driving. In additon, the analogy of human attention is used in the attention mechanisms within large language models (LLMs)
