Charles Babbage was an nineteenth century inventor, famous for his Difference Engine, which used mechanical means to compute complex calculations, and is thus seen as one of the pioneers of computing. He later invdented a more complex programmable device, the Analytic Engine, which is regarded as the first programmable computer, with his collaborator, Lovelace, Ada, as the first programmer.
