computational argument

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

The glossary is being gradually proof checked, but currently has many typos and misspellings.

The computational argument asserts that human intelligence is essentially computational, so that if one can emulate the information processing of the human brain, one essentially has human-like intelligence. Others refute this arguing that human intelligence is more then information processing. Searle Chinese room argument focuses on the importance of meaning – intelligence is not just syntax but also semantics. Others argue that there is something about the biologival substrate of the brain that is special, or that embodiment is crucial.
