consciousness

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

The glossary is being gradually proof checked, but currently has many typos and misspellings.

The study and philosophy of consciousness is both complex and contentious. Ideas of being conscious range from more behavioural questions such the ability to describe what you are thinking about, to ideas of models of self or the bare awareness of being. The latter is often called the hard-problem of consciousness.

These philoosophical questions and distinctions relate directly to issues about whether AI can ever be 'conscious' and/or about how to deliberately create artiificial consciousness.
