In computer vision and graphics texture is fine-scale detail such as grass, skin or fabric weave, as opposed to areas of solid colour. Some form of low-level processing is usually needed to detect that an area of texture is in some way all similar. Ths may be performed using some form of statistical model or in the early layers of a deep neural network.
