Terms from Human Computer Interaction the Basics

The glossary is in progress.

Usability is the property of being effective, easy and enjoyable to use, or, in the terms of ISO Standard 9241: effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. The last of these, satisfaction, was originally intended to capture the more emotional aspects of system use, but the ISO definitions were framed in the days before large-scale domestic use and nowadays user experience is often used to refer to the broader aspects of pleasure and well-being, and how the system fits within a social environment, with 'usability' being confined to more fine grained aspects of interaction.
