user experience designers

The glossary is in progress.

In larger companies there may be dedicated user experience designers, whose central focus is on the user experience. Slightly oddly, this role usually focuses on the 'design' and 'test' (formative evaluation) part of the overall UX iterative design cycle, with dedicated user researchers starting the process and front-end developers responsible for 'deploy'. The 'build' phase may also be the responsibility of user experience designers in early cycles with low-fidelity prototypes but this may shift to front-end developers in later cycle, when the design is closer to deployment and high-fidelity prototypes are needed.
In smaller companies user research may also be part of the UX designer's remit, and in even smaller teams the UX design role may fall on front-end developers.
