Larger organisations or dedicated UX consultancies will have specific job roles for user research. In smaller organisations there may be a single UX role, or it may be wrapped into front-end development. While people may move signficantly during their careers, user researchers will often have a background in the social sciences, humanities or business, as compared with front-end developers who are more likely to have studied computing or STEM subjects and UX designers who may have come from design and the arts.
