A widget is a visible component in a graphical user interface. Examples include menus, icons, text entry areas. A platform will typically supply a number of standard widgets as built-in resources or through a toolkit, for example in HTML the <input> tag, as used in a web form, has options for radio buttons, check boxes and single line text input. Most frameworks make it easy for developers to create their own widgets or reuse those provided by third parties.
