mean (μ)

Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

An average obtained by adding the numbers then dividing the sum by the number of numbers that were added. Contrast this with the median (the middle in the sense that 50% of values are below it) and the mode, the value with the largest frequency. The arithmetic mean is easy to deal with mathematically, but often the median is a more robust measure.
