Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

The term stochastic means that there is some form of random effect. It may be applied to natural phenomena, for example a stochastic process, or computational ones such as a stochastic simulation. Some algorithms also include stochastic elements, notably many forms of machine learning.
