Wizard of Oz prototyping

Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

This is a form of prototyping where some aspect of the interface that would be expected to be performed by a computer is instead performed by a human researcher, usually secretly. This can be used to try out ideas early before they are fully implemented, or even to explore technology that has not yet been fully developed.
