Talk at CHI 2026 Workshop on: Developing an AI-Powered UX Research Point of View (POV), April 16th 2026
Detailed notes coming soon ...
|
We'll take a 40 year romp through UX (user experience) and AI, seeing how easy it is to become fixated on details and miss the larger picture. Indeed, one of the strengths of the POV playbook is the way it help us consider these wider frames for UX Research. We'll begin with UX and Don Norman's example of car keys from the "Psychology of Everyday Things" seeing how our design frame constantly needs to be enlarged socially, spatially, technologically and temporally. In AI the same story emerges in both AI bias and AI evaluation. The use of AI with the POV Playbook is explored using a framework for AI for HCI, and we see how some of the major stakeholders of the design and development process are radically changing due to AV. Critically some of the principal user-facing roles, such as sales and support, are being largely or totally replaced by AI – what is the POV of a non-human agent, albeit one embodying precious engagement with end users?
