Ovid was a Roman poet, who, amongst other works, wrote about Pygmalion a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved. The state was brought to life by Aphrodite at his request. The story is often used as a parallel for makers of artificial intelligence and robots, especially those espousing strong AI.
