A URL (uniform resource locator) is the familar address in the top bar of a web browser. For example, https://alandix.com/glossary/aibook is the URL of this glossary. Unlike earlier hypertext a URL is both globally unique and can be accessed over the internet to give the resource (most commonly a web page or image).
