Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

Methods and systems to make it easier to see trends or other patterns in data or derived results. This varies from simple scatter plots to more complex information visualisations such as the TreeMap or parallel coordinates. Where visualisation is combined with machine learning or other advanced data analysis techniques, it is referred to as visual analytics. Despite the 'visual' word in its name, visualisation is also sometimes used to refer to ways to communicate information through other senses such as auditory versions of graphs.
